In memory of Captain Albert J. Lane, 1922-2019

Capt. Albert Lane, a patient in Covenant Care’s hospice care, had a wish come true when he flew in a vintage biplane for the first time in more than 80 years. His special day was made possible through My Wish, one of the programs supported through Covenant Care’s Foundation.

World War II Army pilot Albert Lane has lived a life with stories to tell. He nearly lost his life when his B-17 was shot from the ground by German anti-aircraft during his service. He credits the timely assistance from the Tuskegee Airmen “Red Tails” pilots with saving him and his crew.

Now 82 years later, Capt. Lane had the opportunity to get into a 1943 Boeing N2S-4 Stearman plane with pilot Roy Kinsey, for a special flight over the Blue Wahoos Stadium. As they flew over and looked from their open cockpits, they could see the stadium full of baseball fans waving, saluting and cheering.

Later in the game, Lane was transported in a wheelchair and onto the field, greeted by fans applauding, saluting the veteran, and thanking him for his service.  The experience was coordinated by Covenant Care’s “My Wish,” a donation-funded program which grants final wishes to its terminally ill patients.
